Not sure why the old BBS (and the annoying but cozy sound of the modem) popped into my head today, but the thought forced me to do a quick search - And here I am, back in..1990?! I had no idea this format was still around, and I'm kind of a nerd. Thanks to those who kept it alive. Hope to run into some old friends.

I was sitting here pondering the years/decades.... Ddial popped in there, like The Stay Puffed Marshmallow Man...
39 years later.

I hope you are all well. I hope your lives have turned out even better than when we were kids... And I hope, that as we enter our senior years, you have as many adventures to lean back on in ur rocking chair as I do.

On a fluke I ran into Ming- of all places, School- about 25 years ago. Ming, I hope you're well old man!!

Toxic Waste too, about 30 years ago in a dive bar. LoL Hope you're well old friend!

As for the rest of you scoundrels and pirates... I miss yas and all
the late night shenanigans we had!!

Be well. ;) <3

DDIAL #1-Detroit, #69-Cat House, #34-RMAC (D/FW)
I was sitting across from a nerdy AI tech bro the other day and said something about meeting my husband online in 1986 before there was an internet (at least as it became known after Al Gore invented it!) -- it startled him and made me nostalgic. DDial shaped my life into something far better than if I'd never found it. I'm still married to quiescent... from RMAC 38 years later and we have two adult daughters. Other RMAC marriages are still going strong, friendships, kids, grandkids. I started in Detroit visiting and playing on Bill Basham's mothership station, helped Tom Cat set up the Cat House, and eventually moved to Texas where I had a pocket of ready friends to ease the cross country move. We had several conventions in Texas and have even had a few reunions in the decades since. RMAC shut down after Christmas 1989 and I avoided anything online for a while -- IRC was just not the same! It wasn't until Facebook came along that we reconnected with people we had lost touch with but there's still more that I wonder about!

5150 and Gumbie Chat in Boston, Massachusetts
My handle back in the 1980's was #015[->Jonathan<-). Since then I spent most of my career as an IT Consultant or IT Manager in the Boston area for a few different companies. Around the beginning of the Covid pandemic, I got burned out on this career and left the IT field. I've moved to Central Mass and now work in Logistics, as a heavy machine operator at a distribution center in the shipping department. I'm happy to have found DDial again as it brings back lots of fond memories!!

All three Boston ddials
  Hi Shawn,

I think I wrote D-Dial around 1980, so I would have been 30 then. I had a
friend at the time who was divorcing and was looking to meet new people.
They had a few articles on people who met in Compuserve chat rooms (before
AOL), but the per minute charges really added up that way. My friend
couldn't afford that.

So I figured I could write a chat system that ran on the Apple, and had the
idea to charge a flat monthly rate for access. I guess that idea caught on!

I kept working on D-Dial sporadically until about 1983. A big innovation was
the connecting of multiple systems. That was an interesting system because
everyone's "address" was just the path back to them, so it was different for
everyone on the network. That was an interesting idea that I've never seen
before or since.

Lately, I've been working on Diversi-Tune, which I initially wrote for the
2gs, but rewrote as a Java applet. Lately I've been switching to C#, and
doing some DVD creation stuff

How've you been?

Bill
